Indus Valley Agate and Gold Bee Necklace

A subtle, light necklace featuring a delightful, hollow sheet gold Bee (possibly Bactrian) spaced with very tiny Indus Valley Carnelian barrels, flanked with two finely granulated gold plated silver beads from Indonesia, then more small Carnelian ones, most with fine dots or lines, bleached into their surfaces making up the body of the necklace.
Reminiscent of the feel achieved by the Zuni Heishi necklaces, and made by the same arduous grinding techniques. It is said that very tiny beads indicated status and wealth as their production was both wasteful and time consuming.
Well worth a very close look, some of the colours, designs, details and textures are fascinating.
These beads and the pendant date back to the Indus Valley Civilisations, and Bactria, pre Alexander, ranging from 2 - 3,000 years ago.

The Bee being gold, unlike other metals, has no age visible and may be more recent, at least post Alexander. It seems more realistic and refined than the other Bactrian pieces we have (see ANC219 & ANC218) but may just be the work of a better Goldsmith (!) The use of bees in jewellery was incredibly widespread and I don't remember this ones story.

I’ve mixed them with small hand granulated, gold plated sterling silver beads and "S" hook, from Indonesia.

For durability, I thread on strong Tiger Tail, but don’t scrunch it up, or it will kink.
Abuse it and it will stretch, so considering their age, a bit of respect would enhance their beauty.

Some beads may be verging on fragile, though I try to vet them, so again don’t abuse them, possibly treat them as you would your pearls, and think how long they’ve already lasted!

Once again, beads can outlast the Civilizations, Kingdoms and Empires that wear them surviving millennia, until they resurface again, for us to wear and appreciate.

I hope you enjoy wearing them, as I’ve had a close look at them, and have enjoyed handling them.
