Chinese, Engraved Jade Disc.

A flat, double sided, round pale "celadon" jade disc from China, with both surfaces engraved with intertwining links of stylized basketry.

The central 7 mm hole means you can easily wear it as a pendant suspended on a leather, silk or cotton cord, or the more ambitious could use it in their own jewellery designs according to their skills.

There is some build up of grime in the engraving, but this only enhances the pattern. You could, of course, carefully wash it seperately in warm water if you want, preferably in a plastic bowl rather than a hard basin. (But why would you?)

Being jade it "retains its cool" staying colder than its surrroundings which make it a sensual pleasure to handle.

I don't know its original function, but its contemporary possibilities are fun. You could easily thread it on a cord as a pendant (for an example see Bugi Pendants.)

Age: 19th/Early 20th Century (possibly older.).

Size: Diameter 51 mm, depth 5 mm. Central hole 7 mm.

Weight: 28 grams.
