Nepalese Shaman's Dagger

Old carved wooden “phurga”, used in various parts of Nepal by Shaman’s for ritual Exorcisms.
Said to be able to transfix or change the Evil, without absorbing it. (which is nice to know!)

The shaft or blade has entwining, almost Celtic, designs, the handle has a triple face, facing and defending in all directions.

Lovely dark patina, worn smooth with handling.

Retaining original “pennants” of dirty old fraying textile (which may have been white or natural, once.)

“Phurga” are used throughout the Buddhist Himilayas, varying qualities being used by differing ranks from Shamans upto Monks and Abbots.

Age: Early /Mid 20 th century.
