Roman Bronze Coin Ring

Sorry, this ring is no longer available. However, others like it may still be.
This small, round, dark coppery bronze Imperial Roman coin was found in Eastern Europe, then taken to Indonesia where we have had it handset into a simple, plain Sterling Silver Ring for us.

The coin dates from somewhere in the 1st to the 4th Century. I'm not sure which Emperor this is but when I have more time I'll update this entry, (but the half the fun of ownership is the hunt for background info.)

It's set into a simple modern ring with no decoration. It has a plain silver band of 4 mm with a matching plain bezel holding the coin

We've deliberately left an opening in the back to partially reveal the reverse of the coin, however you'll struggle to interpret it.

The front surface is in good condition with nice fine definition, the surface has a dark dull patina. The Emperor's bust and writing have been slightly polished, in effect highlighted, revealing the slightly pitted warm copper. It'll tone down later but actually subtly reveals the form of the ancient sculpting. It looks much warmer and defined in real life, once again the photos don't do it justice.

An occasional careful polish with a dry "Silver Polishing Cloth" will bring up the shine on the silver, when it needs it.

But be careful not to scratch or polish the coin as you would only be removing the patina of age. I'd just rub my thumb over it in wear.

The rounded sculptural ring will fit a medium finger size of "J" ( US 4.75) if that's about right find a finger to fit it on any given day.

You may also find Roman Coin Earrings, Pendants and Rings listed in our Modern section as the coin is ancient even though the silver work is contemporary.
