Large Peking Glass Bead

Sorry, this old bead is no longer available.

An old rather large, slightly translucent white Peking Glass Bead, which whilst molten has been rolled in crumbs of red, blue and green glass which have fused into the surface.

In so doing they have softened their outlines and appear to float or be painted onto the surface. These areas of colour on this particular bead are clearly defined colour groups seperated by the white, also the blues contain larger blobs on one side reducing in size down to tiny dots on the other. The reds are not orange and rather watery appearing almost "brushed on" (one red hasn't fully merged and is slightly embossed whilst actually being depressed, which disproves the brushed on theory.)

This bead appears to be the same age as PG106 the white being the same, not heavily pitted and is in good condition and easily worn if you wish. The colours are different though, with the green more "apple" than "emerald" and the red less vibrant.

I would assume it's 19th Century or at the very least late Ching Dynasty (ie pre 1911)

The hole is 6 mm.
