Roman Bronze Coin Ring

Sorry this coin ring is no longer available.
This medium, round, dark coppery bronze Imperial Roman coin was found in Eastern Europe, then taken to Indonesia where we have had it handset into a large modern plain Sterling Silver Ring for us.

This coin dates from somewhere in the 1st to the 4th Century. I'm not sure which Emperor this is but when I have more time I'll update this entry, (but the half the fun of ownership is the hunt for background info.)

It's set into a simple, smoothly organic modern ring with no decoration. This plain silver tapers from a band of 4 mm at the back to about 10 mm when it meets the coin.

We've deliberately left an opening in the back to partially reveal the reverse of the coin, where there is some detail I can't interpret, maybe you can (?)

The front surface is in good condition with nice definition, the surface has a dark shiny patina. The cheek, hair and writing have been slightly polished, in effect highlighted, revealing the warm copper. It'll tone down later but actually subtly reveals the form of the sculpting. It looks much warmer and defined in real life, once again the photos don't do it justice.

An occasional careful polish with a dry "Silver Polishing Cloth" will bring up the shine on the silver, when it needs it.

But be careful not to scratch or polish the coin as you would only be removing the patina of age. I'd just rub my thumb over it in wear.

The rounded sculptural ring will fit a medium finger size of "M" (which is about US 6.25)

You may also find Roman Coin Earrings, Pendants and Rings listed in our Antiques & Antiquities section as the coin is ancient even though the silver work is contemporary.
