Indian, Old Silver and Glass Ring.

Sorry, this ring is no longer available.

A very sweet little, old Indian or Pashtun ring from the border regions of Pakistan or India.
With two tear drop shaped glass stones. (These are unusual in that they glow like old oxidized Roman glass, with an opaline irridescence at certain angles, much better in real life than in photos. Between the is a small very worn faceted red glass.)

Set into contrasting smoothed very worn bezel, surrounded by filigree and tiny silver knobs on a very worn, forking double silver band.

This is one of the “special” very old rings, that we occasionally are able to source.

It’s “special” in that it is very worn, with a lot of silver and detail completely worn off .

The irridescent colour of the stones, which are so worn from use and the many knocks received over time, that the facets and the surface are both worn down with an uncountable number of fine scratches.
They may have coloured foil behind them, but the glass itself appears to be very old, each of the “tears” has a fine crack but they are still stably locked in their settings.

The worn silver has a soft, mellow patina exhibiting all the features sort after in an older Tribal Silver Ring.

You could if you liked give it a careful rub with a dry Silver Polishing cloth to bring up the contrast as needed, definitely no liquids.

Once again its charm is to do with the mellow, worn silver contrasting with the subtle colour of the glass, the inner glow and their dull, matted surfaces….

It’s very hard finding and rescuing pieces like this, ones that are so worn, that if not rescued they would have been condemned to be melted down to be remade as new pieces.
So worn as to visually be at their best, but still sturdy enough to be wearable.

It’s difficult getting this balance of obvious age and wear, combined with durability, just right.

Fascinating to imagine just where its been in its various migrations, romances and hardships.

I haven’t seen another like this, the glass inserts are magic.
