Indian, Tiny Embroidered Bag

Sorry, this little gem is no longer available. We may still have some similar ones, though.

A delightful little silk embroidered drawstring bag from Gujarat, in Western India.

Alternating with the little silk pom-poms are tiny "shisha" mirrors fluffy, with matching silk tassels around the sides and bottom.

Handmade from older recycled silk embroidered fabrics, they have an individuality that is homemade rather than Touristy or those made for export to shops in the West.

They were found in a market in Gujarat in about 1991.

To me the cord is a rather plain shop bought silk but it may have seemed very exotic to the maker, at the time.

However, it is authentic and not a recent replacement, toning in well with the pastel mint tassels.

You might consider one of these as a gift bag, if you are sending someone special a ring or smaller pair of earrings, as they have a lot of charm and weigh very little. I think they (we have a few more) are just gorgeous as themselves but as an accessory they would be happy to serve.

Age: Late 20th Century.

Size: L 130 mm (excluding string) x W 100 mm (including tassels)

Weight: 16 grams.
