Large Lapis Lazuli Necklace.

This subtle necklace combines a range of very large deep blue, natural Lapis Lazuli spheres, which have been handcarved and polished  in India, (or possibly Pakistan) then strung for us by a friend in Thailand with on knotted Silk with a Sterling Silver "S" hook.

This delightfully, deeply coloured, Lapis Lazuli is a very dark blue but still has colour variation, paler veins and some Pyrites flecking (I look for this variation as when I don't find it I begin to suspect dying has taken place.)

(On really close inspection, like in a blown up photo, you may see tiny flat plains on the surface, these are very minor faults in the hand cutting that haven't been completely polished away, I consider them an added value as they are very subtle but somehow add something extra to the bead. They're totally in character with the stone and probably not very visible to the naked eye in normal wear.)

They are Lapis Lazuli from the Badakshan Mountain Range in far North Eastern Afghanistan, where it has been mined for over 5,000 years and it's very big beads of it, not the very top quality at this price but excellent value (and continually commented on for their colour and size.)

They are threaded with black silk that is double knotted between the beads fo added security with the only silver at the very back of the neck.

The Sterling Silver rings and "S" hook are young and still shiny (the "S" has some colour in its recesses), however when they both start to oxidize they will respond well to a gentle polishing (of each item whilst holding the stones on either side firmly) with a dry "Silver Polishing Cloth" but don't stretch it by rubbing too hard.

Although it appears heavy, as it sits high on the collar bone it doesn't pull down or drag like a longer neck might.
