Nepalese, Hilltribe Beads.

Multi strands of fine glass beads worn by Hilltribes in Nepal and also Northern India. (these were sourced in Kathmandu.)

Made up of 26 strands of tiny uniformly sized, translucent, richly polished red orange glass beads (it may just be a deep light catching orange but I find it appears with the play of light to be more than just orange !)

On original thread, so don't treat it too roughly, it is made to slip over the head without opening. The "join" is made with interlocking bound thread loops, and is a fairly good reference when determining its age.

I've heard these referred to as "wedding necklaces" which may be true (but is a very overused term) so they may not receive that much wear, therefore the binding is often not too worn or discoloured.

However of the four we were able to get, this one is quite dark, so this neck has some definite age.

For other variants, see also NH101, NH103 and NH104.

Age: Late 20th Century

Size: L 630 mm, in a circle to go over the head.
