Nepalese, Hilltribe Beads

Multi strands of fine glass beads worn by Hilltribes in Nepal and also Northern India. (These were sourced for us in Kathmandu, some years ago.)

Made up of 20 strands of tiny handmade, (oddly sized and shaped) opaque lemony yellow glass beads, including one translucent dark green and one deep cadmium yellow, just to add to its joyfullness !)

On original thread, so don't treat it too roughly, it is made to slip over the head without opening. The "join" is made with interlocking bound thread loops, and is a fairly good reference when determining its age.

I've heard these referred to as "wedding necklaces" which may be true (but is a very overused term) so they may not receive that much wear, therefore the binding is not too worn or discoloured.

This neck isn't new, it has some age but isn't "very" old, the beads though are old and might well be recycled from another older piece.

.For other variants, see also NH101, NH102 and NH104.

Age: Late 20th Century

Size: L  580 mm, in a circle to go over the head.

Weight: 111 grams
