Kazak, Gilt Silver and Carnelian Pendant

Sorry, this item is no longer available.

Glorious Kazak “fire gilt” and silver “Rectangular” hexagonal Pendant, with one central flat oval Carnelian, surrounded by bright silver “false granulation” details.

Embellished with tiny red and turquoise coloured glass beads (4 missing) and six twisted wire and old faded red coral dangles.

A glorious, rich, glowing piece, contrasting the little silver balls against the gold background.
Dark patina surrounding all the silver, highlights beautifully, doesn’t need a polish, eventually you can use a cloth to reawaken these highlights.
Main suspension tube accross top is blocked by two smaller rings (3 mm) making threading less easy.
Two extra rings (3 mm) at the widest points would allow hanging from these points as well/instead.

I’m beginning to think this piece is from Khorezm on the East of the Aral Sea, it has a warmth and simplicity often missing in Kazak work.

Age: Mid/Late 20th century
